How to Help Minimize Stress and Anxiety for Your Children During the COVID-19 Outbreak

         Stay calm, listen, and offer reassurance: Children will pick up your reactions. They learn from your example. Demonstrate deep breathing. Remind your children that there are lots of people working to help keep them safe and healthy.

  Talk with them: Answer their questions truthfully, but do not offer unnecessary information that may be alarming. Just by listening, you can help ease your child's anxiety. If you do not have an answer to their questions, you can tell them that.

      Monitor television viewing and social media: Watching and reading continual updates about COVID-19 increases fear and anxiety. Children reading and watching information intended for adults adds to the stress and confusion. Information posted online may also be inaccurate. Engage your child in games or other activities as an alternative and distraction.

      Stay connected with school: Reach out to teachers and staff members with questions or concerns. Take advantage of the learning opportunities available for your child

      Maintain routine: Try to maintain a routine as much as possible. Be sure to include practicing daily good hygiene, eating a balanced diet, going to bed and getting up around the same time every day, and exercise regularly. This will build up their immune system and improve their mental health.
